What should I do if I think bats are in my loft?

In England, contact Natural England; in Wales, contact Natural Resources Wales (NRW). Once a survey has been completed and any necessary licence obtained, your loft boarding project can proceed in accordance with the agreed mitigation plan.
Do loft boarding regulations differ in Wales?
The core Building Regulations framework – including Parts A, B, L, and P – applies in Wales as it does in England, meaning the practical standards for insulation, structural loading, ventilation, fire safety, and electrical work are broadly the same. Wales does, however, operate its own energy efficiency policy, and homeowners should confirm with their installer that current Welsh technical guidance is being applied. Wildlife licensing for bat surveys is handled by Natural Resources Wales rather than Natural England.
Do I need a proper loft hatch and ladder?
